How Can I Beat the Car Dealers?

Cars In Houston wants to start by reminding you that you are not reading an article your friend, classmate or colleague wrote.

This is an article written by a car dealer, that doesn’t like the car business to be conducted in gray areas.  First of all there is no such thing as beating the car dealer, rather there is something called not losing at the car dealership.

Cars in Houston wants to remind you that car industry, just like any other industry in the world, greedy drive for profit, drives human beings to stretch.  Some prefer to spend extra effort, and time, and other simply prefer to take shortcuts.  Well, in the car industry there is dealers with low moral standards, are willing to engage in non ethical practices.

Put yourself in the shoes of any sales person, If someone walks in

  • unprepared

  • unaware of what the product is really worth

  • why should they help you save money?

Do your homework:

  • local newspaper car classifieds

  • local car classifieds

  • call the other car dealers in Houston to find out the fair market price.  Once you have done your homework, and walk into the dealership follow the advice to follow

Based on your homework conclusions:

·         Do not hesitant to make a low offer based on the invoice price.

·         Once you have made your offer, do not discuss anything until you have a response.

·         Do not soften.  Stand to your ground.

If you are ready to move up from the initial offer, do so by increasing a small amount.  Increasing large amounts will let the dealer know that your offer was just because you wanted to bargain.  You would really be demonstrating your well understanding for the market.
